A Case of Servere Sear Contracture of the Mouth Resulting from Electrical Brun

Abstract
Electric burns usually seen by plastic surgeons are of the arc and low tension (less than 500 volts) type, due to contact with live electrical cords and sockets and the tissue injury is confined to the immediate area of the burn.
Electrical burns involving the upper and lower lips and commissure of the mouth occur most frequently and are limited to the younger generation ranging in age from 9 months to 4 years.
Very often one finds that one half or more of the upper and lower lips has beer. destroyed and in healing, the oral cavity has become occluded completely, except for perhaps a small opening about the size of a lead penciL
A number of excellent procedures have been devised to reconstruct these deformities, but it is still difficult to produce and excellent result with normal appearance and satisfactory function.
We excerienced severe contracture of the mouth from an electric cord burn injury in children and reconstructed it by two stages operation, one using advanced mucosa, the others employing local buccal flap and Z-plasty.
